For clients living in metropolitan area:
There will be out of pocket costs.
The costs are based on nature of review and length of the appointment.
Unfortunately at this stage, Medicare does not refund for consultations that are not face to face.
If you meet the following criterion, you will not have any out of pocket expense:
• live outside a major city (see the Department of Health’s remoteness area map for what counts as a major city), and
• are more than 15 km from the psychiatrist, and
• are not currently staying in hospital.
• Have a valid referral from your local doctor/GP
If you live in an aged care facility or are a client of an Aboriginal medical service, you can get a Medicare refund no matter where you live.
Please be mindful that you are advised to pay the full fee prior to the consultation.
